This was my first time at Aluna Wellness Center & Spa. I can not say enough about my time there! This was also my first experience with Acupuncture.Tricia Graziano, was so great and very informative. I will definitely will be back for more. I would be remiss if I did complement Janea Monroe on the BEST massage I have ever had (and I have had a lot). I was so relaxed after spending the morning enjoying their lounge and meditation area, I don't think I wanted to leave... :) Would highly recommend!!

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture originated in China 2,000 – 4,000 years ago. This ancient form of medicine is so effective because it triggers the body’s natural healing response. Traditional Oriental Medicine explains acupuncture as a technique to balance the Qi in the body. Qi is considered your vital life force and it runs through the body via pathways called meridians.

When the flow of energy in the meridians is not balanced or obstructed this may result in pain, dysfunction and ill health, or disease. Acupuncture is a form of treatment that involves inserting very thin needles (as thin as a strand of hair) into specific points of the body that aim to restore this balance of energy.

What are the benefits of Acupuncture?

Scientific research explains that acupuncture works by increasing serotonin levels and other natural pain killing hormones. Studies have also shown that it reduces inflammation and increases blood flow to areas in need of healing in the body.

Pain is the number one condition that acupuncture has been known to treat most effectively. When it comes to acute pain, you will usually notice a great improvement after only one treatment. Chronic Pain, however, may take several treatments for significant improvement but still it is possible to achieve reduction in pain after only one visit. Through stimulation of of the body’s complex systems, acupuncture can also help to improve digestion, sleep, anxiety, and stress.

What should I expect during my Acupuncture Treatment?

Many people, especially those with needle phobias, ask, “is acupuncture painful?” While the journey is different for all, acupuncture usually does not cause pain or discomfort. A slight tingling sensation is normal and can be a good indicator the treatment is working. We use “thin as a strand of hair” needles accompanied by a gentle technique. Many people feel a sense of relaxation and often fall asleep during a treatment.

I’m in good health, how can Acupuncture help me?

In China, Acupuncture is just as frequently used as a preventive medicine as it is for treating certain ailments and conditions. Just as you take your car to the mechanic for tune-ups, Acupuncture can provide the same element of preventative care. Routine visits can keep you body functioning optimally and can actually aid in less frequent illnesses.
